New details emerge in fiery fatal crash near Livingston

The man killed Tuesday in a fiery crash outside Livingston was a 20-year-old El Nido resident, the California Highway Patrol confirmed. The victim’s name was not released Thursday.

Investigators said he was driving a 2003 Dodge Ram pickup around 5 p.m. Tuesday, heading east on Atwater Jordan Road. He apparently failed to stop at a stop sign at the Lincoln Boulevard intersection, driving into the path of an oncoming 2008 Peterbilt tractor-trailer that was heading south on Lincoln.

There is no stop sign on Lincoln Boulevard, the CHP said.

The truck crashed into the pickup, which went off the road and slammed into a utility pole before bursting into flames, the CHP said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Gabriel Borra Avila, 59, of Tracy, suffered major injuries and was flown to Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto.

A passenger in the pickup, Clyde Willoughby 19, of Gig Harbor, Wash., also suffered major injuries and was flown to Memorial Medical Center. A witness, who was not identified in the CHP report, apparently helped Willoughby from the vehicle, the CHP said.

Updates on the conditions of the two victims were not available Thursday.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
