Divers recover body of man who disappeared in Tahoe-area reservoir

Drowning incident depicts emergency personnel in boats on water

Divers in Placer County recovered the body of a man who disappeared underwater in a reservoir, the sheriff’s office said Saturday.

Authorities said two men were fishing from kayaks in Hell Hole Reservoir Thursday around 7:45 p.m. when one man fell in. The second entered the water to help but went beneath the surface.

The other person was able to swim to shore of the remote reservoir about 10 miles west of Lake Tahoe but was unable to call 911 until the following morning.

On Friday evening, the Placer County Sheriff’s office dive team recovered what is believed to be the man’s body.

“We send our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones impacted,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
