Total Merced County coronavirus cases rise to 110, recoveries increase to 73

Five additional Merced County residents were confirmed to have contracted coronavirus Monday, raising the tally to 110 infected, according to County Public Health.

Of that total, 73 people have recovered from the disease and 34 are still sick. Three individuals have died from COVID-19 related complications, with the most recent deaths reported April 8.

The number of coronavirus-related deaths reported in Merced County remains at three.

Each of the five new cases are residents living in the county’s east side. Four of the new cases are individuals age 65 or older, and one is between 18 to 49-years-old.

Community-specific numbers are released by County Public Health only for areas where five or more residents have contracted COVID-19.

No new cases were reported in Los Banos on Monday. The city has 36 cases of confirmed infections. Gustine has seven confirmed cases, while Livingston has six.

The cities of Merced, Delhi and Atwater each gained one case Monday, raising their confirmed case totals to 22, 12 and eight, respectively.

In California as of Monday, there were 44,852 confirmed coronavirus cases and 1,751 deaths.

The county announced Monday that a Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Warm Line is now running. The 24-hour line is a non-emergency resource for youth seeking emotional support.

Elsewhere in the Valley

Stanislaus County has reported seven deaths among the 312 people who have tested positive for the virus, and 215 have recovered. A total of 51 employees and residents at the Turlock Nursing and Rehabilitation Center have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Fresno County reported nearly 40 new cases of coronavirus on Monday, including cases confirmed over the weekend. The total number of cases confirmed is close to 500.

The number of active cases from those confirmed rose to 320, with 171 people recovered, the county reported. The county reported 19 people tested positive Sunday and 18 on Monday. The numbers were updated on the county’s public health website.

Tulare County has now recorded 538 positive cases as of Monday, with just under 100 of those recovered.

Some of the positive cases include those of another outbreak at a nursing facility. Ten people are infected with the virus at Linwood Meadows Care Center in Visalia.

The facility is owned by the same company that owns Redwood Springs Healthcare Center, which has been the epicenter of an outbreak in Visalia. Two nursing facilities in Fresno County have also experienced positive coronavirus cases.

Madera County reported 15 active cases and 27 recovered so far, a total of 44 cases since first reporting. Two new cases were reported over the weekend, and three on Monday.

Kings County, as of Monday, had 57 positive cases, and nine people have recovered since the first case came to light. On Sunday, officials at the Central Valley Meat Company said several employees had tested positive for the coronavirus.

They are under quarantine and were identified to the Kings County Public Health Department after the plant’s daily pre-screening process.
