Merced County reports 7 new coronavirus cases. Madera County reports third COVID-19 death

Seven new coronavirus cases were added to Merced County’s tally Tuesday, bringing the total number of residents having been infected sine the beginning of the pandemic to 308, according to Merced County Public Health.

Eleven more individuals recovered from the disease since Monday, resulting in 80 active infections — the lowest number of ill people reported by the county in weeks. Recoveries tally 221 and deaths seven.

The City of Merced gained the most cases, maintaining its lead as the community most affected by coronavirus in the county. Three more Merced residents tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total infected to 120.

A total of 6,824 COVID-19 tests have been performed in Merced County through the commercial and public health system. Of those, 6,459 are negative, 308 positive and 57 are pending.

In California as of Tuesday, there were 115,486 confirmed coronavirus cases and 4,225 deaths.

Coronavirus around the Valley

Fresno and Madera counties each reported a new death related to the coronavirus on Tuesday as the number of cases in the region rose by triple digits.

Fresno County has had 37 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic, according to health officials. Thirty-two new positive cases reported on Tuesday brings the county’s total to 1,914.

Madera County health officials said Tuesday another person died from the infection, the third fatal case in the county since the beginning of the pandemic. The county has tallied 117 positive patients, which is three more than the previous day.

Tulare County added 107 new cases in its Tuesday update. The county has now seen 2,004 positive cases and 89 deaths, with a recovery rate that now stands at just over 50 percent.

Kings County reported 13 new cases among the population, bringing the total to 515, not including the inmates at Avenal State Prison. A total of 622 inmates have tested positive for COVID-19 through Tuesday, three more than the day prior, according to health officials.

Stanislaus County reported 767 total COVID-19 cases, 30 related deaths and 601 recoveries Tuesday.

Mariposa County has counted 16 cases and a single death through Tuesday.
