Fresno, Valley surpass half a million COVID-19 cases: Charts show pandemic patterns

The pace of new COVID-19 cases has slowed in Fresno County and the surrounding counties of the central San Joaquin Valley. But on Tuesday, the region reached a new milestone for the 25-month-long pandemic, surpassing a half-million laboratory-confirmed infections across Fresno, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, and Tulare counties.

Based on the state Department of Public Health’s population estimates of more than 2.1 million residents in the six counties, almost one out of every four Valley residents has contracted the virus at some point since the first local cases were reported in March 2020.

Across the region, at least 5,841 deaths have been attributed to COVID-19.

Explore the interactive charts below to see how the novel coronavirus has affected Valley counties in numbers of cases, deaths, hospitalizations, and vaccination rates.
