Authorities identify victim of fatal Interstate 5 crash in Merced County
The Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office has identified the driver in a fatal Merced County traffic collision on June 11.
Nina Deering, 34, of San Diego, died from fatal injuries suffered in a traffic collision on Interstate 5 south of Gustine, according to Deputy Daryl Allen.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded to the solo-vehicle collision at about 12:05 p.m. on Interstate 5 just south of Butts Road.
The CHP, Deering was driving a 2012 Hyundai Accent at an unknown speed southbound on I-5 in the number one lane when for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway and onto the east dirt shoulder.
Authorities said the vehicle impacted a metal guardrail and came to rest in the center median. Deering suffered fatal injuries in the collision and died at Memorial Hospital Los Banos, according to the CHP.
The CHP said Deering was not wearing a seat belt and neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the collision.
