Woman killed in Merced County head-on collision identified by coroner
The Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s office has identified a driver killed in a Merced County head-on collision as 22-year-old Sinthia Fernandez of San Jose, according to Deputy Alexandra Britton.
Officers responded to the collision at about 10:39 a.m. on Jan. 19 along South Gurr Road south of Shippee Road. According to authorities, Fernandez was driving a 2019 Toyota Corolla south on South Gurr Road when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle veered into the northbound lane and collided head-on with a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado.
According to the CHP, Fernandez was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet reportedly suffered minor injuries and ,refused medical attention at the scene.
