Memorial Day ceremonies in Merced County: Here’s what’s happening

Members of the U.S. armed forces who died while serving their nation will be honored this weekend during ceremonies in Merced County.

Here’s a look at ceremonies planned for Memorial Day weekend:

American Legion Post 83 Observance in Merced

American Legion Post 83 will host a Memorial Day event on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Merced District Cemetery, 1300 B St.

The observance is open to the public and will be followed by an open house at the post’s facility until 2 p.m.

San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery

The San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella will hold its annual Memorial Day event on Sunday at 9 a.m. The cemetery is at 32052 W. McCabe Road. It is open to the public. The event features speakers, wreath-laying and music.

The Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Cemetery Administration maintains 157 national cemeteries in 44 states and Puerto Rico, as well as 35 soldiers’ lots and monument sites.

Winton VFW Post 7792 Ceremony

The Winton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7792 is hosting a remembrance ceremony and luncheon on Monday at Winton Cemetery, 7651 Almond Ave.

The ceremony, which is open to the public, begins at 10 a.m. The tri-tip luncheon will follow at the Winton VFW Post, 7093 W Walnut Ave.

Livingston VFW Ceremony

The Livingston Veterans of Foreign Wars post will hold a Memorial Day ceremony on Monday at 5 p.m. at Livingston Veterans Memorial Park, 1339 Main St.

The event is open to the public but visitors will need to bring a chair. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony at Livingston Veterans Memorial Hall, 1605 Seventh St.

Los Banos American Legion and VFW Ceremony

The American Legion Post 166 and VFW Post 2487 in Los Banos are holding a ceremony Monday at 10 a.m. at the Los Banos Cemetery, 16575 Center Ave. In Los Banos, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars are joined together in a combined effort to serve veterans and the community.
