New Japanese restaurant to bring ‘something special’ to Merced. Here’s when
While Merced has welcomed several new businesses in 2026 — including major retailers and popular dessert chains — the city has yet to see many new sit-down dining options.
Residents have taken notice.
“Can we get more clothing stores and sit-down restaurants? Another movie theater?” one Instagram user commented on a recent city post highlighting new businesses coming to Merced.
A new restaurant said it’s bringing “something special” to Merced.
Dokidoki announced on Instagram on May 13 that it plans to bring “a new Japanese yakitori & izakaya experience” to the city.

What is Dokidoki?
Dokidoki describes itself as “not another ordinary restaurant.”
The new eatery plans to offer a contemporary Japanese dining experience inspired by Japanese street food culture and traditional izakaya dining.
What will be on the menu at new Merced eatery?
“We’re excited to bring a new ramen and yakitori concept to Merced,” the business said in a statement to the Merced Sun-Star.
The menu will feature authentic ramen dishes and binchotan-grilled yakitori — a Japanese-style grilled barbecue — along with fresh sashimi.
While menu prices have not yet been finalized, the restaurant said guests can expect a “warm, energetic dining experience.”
When and where will new Japanese restaurant open?
Dokidoki will open at 2991 G St. in Merced.
The restaurant is aiming for a July opening, though owners said “the timeline may shift slightly” as final preparations continue.
