Woman killed by train in Winton identified
A pedestrian struck and killed by a train this week has been identified as a 79-year-old Winton woman, the Merced County Coroner’s Office reported.
Harlan Preszler was identified through fingerprint analysis, Sgt. Delray Shelton told the Sun-Star.
She was struck by an Amtrak passenger train at 1:38 p.m. Monday in the area of Winton Way and Santa Fe Drive, according to sheriff’s deputies.
The investigation into the death continued Thursday afternoon.
The train, which runs from from Bakersfield to Oakland, was carrying 254 passengers. There were no injuries on board, according to Vernae Graham, Amtrak spokeswoman.
The train was stopped on the tracks until 4:25 p.m., Graham said.
