Teen shot near a Los Banos elementary school, police say

A teenager was struck by at least one bullet in a shooting reported near R.M. Miano Elementary in Los Banos on Monday, according to police.

The shooting took place just before 5 p.m. near the school and the 17-year-old victim, who was hit in the lower body, ran to the front of the campus, according to Cmdr. Jason Hedden.

There has not been an arrest in relation to the shooting, he said. An after school program on the campus was temporarily placed on lockdown as a precaution, Hedden said, and children were not in danger.

The victim was taken to a Modesto-area hospital, police said.
