Los Banos police preparing for ‘National Night Out’ event
The public is being invited to meet the people responsible for protecting the town’s residents from crime.
The Los Banos Police Department will hold its sixth annual National Night Out event from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at Rancho Dos Amigos Park, 2241 San Luis St. in Los Banos.
The park is near the location where the city’s only homicide of 2014 took place last December.
The department is partnering with Target, the Los Banos Fire Department, California Highway Patrol and the police volunteers group, VITAL to put on the event. It is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.
Attendees receive free food and view emergency vehicles – fire engines and police cars – as well as meet firefighters and police officers. The event is designed to foster a good relationship between police and the community.
“We are again taking this event into the community and I’m really pleased with the location chosen this year. If you live in the area of Ward Road and San Luis Street, I encourage you to come out to meet members of the Los Banos Police Department, Los Banos Fire Department, and a number of other agencies we work with everyday to keep Los Banos safe,” Police Chief Gary Brizzee said. “It takes all of us, united, to keep Los Banos safe.”
Los Banos police started participating in National Night Out in 2009 in the Target parking lot. For the past few years the event has been held at a different city park annually to provide a better opportunity to reach out to different segments of the community.
National Night Out’s objectives include heightening crime and drug prevention awareness and generating support for anti-crime programs. For more information, contact Police Services Manager Brenda Geary at (209) 827-7070 ext 110.
