Two people suspected in the shooting of a Los Banos man last month have been arrested in Missouri.

Police in Springfield, Mo., say Billy Ray Littlefield, 21, and Peyton Garnica, 20, both of Los Banos, were arrested Tuesday night and jailed in Greene County, according to Los Banos police. A third suspect, Carl William Littlefield – Billy’s 20-year-old brother – has eluded capture.

The two suspects were arrested on suspicion of shoplifting at a Walmart in south Springfield, Los Banos police Cmdr. Jason Hedden confirmed.

KYTV reported that Springfield police were chasing the three at the Walmart on Tuesday when Carl Littlefield fired a shot at them. No one was injured, but customers and employees were moved out of the store for several hours.

Police in Los Banos say the two brothers and Garnica are suspects in the Nov. 27 shooting of David Contreras, a 35-year-old father of three. They face charges of attempted homicide, conspiracy and felon in possession of a firearm.

Contreras was shot in the upper body just after 12:30 p.m. Friday in the 600 block of I Street in Los Banos. He was hospitalized in Modesto.

Investigators in Los Banos have said they believe Contreras was involved in some type of argument with the three shortly before he was shot.

“We’re working with authorities in Missouri to further our investigation,” Hedden said.
