Truckee planner tabbed as next Los Banos city manager

The Los Banos City Council will vote Wednesday on approving Alex Terrazas as the new city manager.

Terrazas is currently the assistant town manager for the Town of Truckee, a municipality in California along Interstate 80, 32 miles southwest of Reno, Nev., in the mountains near the California/Nevada border.

The resolution to approve an employment agreement with Terrazas only reveals his name. But Terrazas confirmed to the Enterprise on Tuesday afternoon that he is the chosen candidate for city manager.

Terrazas said he wanted to hold off on commenting about himself or the new post until he is approved.

“I want to give the City Council the opportunity to announce it,” Terrazas said.

In Truckee, Terrazas plans, organizes and directs activities and programs for economic development planning, disaster preparedness, safety, labor negotiations, franchise administration and other town operations, according to a posted job description.

The Los Banos city manager position manages and oversees all city activities, according to the city’s website.

The terms of Terrazas’ contract will be released at Wednesday’s board meeting, should the council approve his hire, according to a council agenda staff report.

Phone calls to Mayor Mike Villalta weren’t immediately returned Tuesday afternoon.

If Terrazas is approved Wednesday, his hire will conclude a five-month search for a new city manager. The city hired Rocklin-based Ralph Anderson and Associates on a $18,500 contract Jan. 12 to consult with the search.

On Jan. 25, former City Manager Steve Carrigan left Los Banos to take same position for the City of Merced.

Police Chief Gary Brizzee has been serving as the interim city manager while the City Council searched for a permanent solution.

The open session of Wednesday’s City Council meeting starts at 7 p.m. and will be held in the City Hall Council Chambers at 520 J St. in Los Banos.
