Suspect wanted in 2018 Loughborough homicide, Merced police say

A 40-year-old Turlock man is wanted by Merced police as a suspect in a 2018 homicide reported in the city’s Loughborough area.

According to Sgt. Rey Alvarez, authorities are trying to locate Augustine Singh in connection with the Dec. 22, 2018 shooting death of 37-year-old Christopher Reyes.

Alvarez said Singh has been known to frequent the Merced area. Police said Singh’s last known whereabouts were in Stanislaus County, possibly in the Turlock area.

Alvarez said police believe Singh and the victim knew of each other through a mutual acquaintance. Singh is suspected of being involved with a Norteño street gang. The shooting is believed to be gang related.

The night of the shooting, officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 1200 block of Loughborough Drive around 12:30 a.m. and located the victim on the ground with several gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Merced police ask anyone with information on Singh’s whereabouts to contact Det. Haygood at 209-385-6998. Tips are kept confidential and you can remain anonymous.
