Merced man arrested in shooting homicide, police say. Investigators seek public’s help

Officers arrested a 41-year-old man on suspicion of murder Thursday morning after a shooting in Merced, according to police.

Detectives identified Juan Carreno as the suspect in the shooting that took place in the area of West 11th and G streets at 12:41 a.m. Thursday. The victim, a male adult whose name has not been released, died at the scene, police said in a news release.

Police have not commented on a possible motive for the violence or how they linked Carreno to the case.

Carreno was later arrested in the 1000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way. Carreno was booked into the Merced County Jail with bail set at $1 million, according to jail records.
