Shooting injures three men outside Los Banos apartment complex, police say

Los Banos detectives are looking for answers following multiple shootings.

Police were dispatched at 12:30 a.m. July 1 after reports of a shooting on the 700 block of Illinois Avenue Wednesday injuring three men.

The three male victims, each in their early 20s, were standing outside an apartment complex when at least two male shooters approached and fired multiple shots, according to a Los Banos Police Department news release.

The victims were taken to a Modesto area hospital. One of the injured men was treated for a wound from a bullet fragment to the face and released.

The other two victims are still hospitalized due to gunshot wounds in the lower body.

The investigation is in its early stages and no other details were available, the release said. Detectives are examining evidence and speaking with witnesses.

Los Banos police noted that the recent shooting comes days after another shooting in the 1500 block of Cypress Avenue, which was gang motivated.

On June 27 at about 10:25 p.m, officers were dispatched to the area after a shooter approached a group of known gang members and gang associates. The individual fired multiple shots, but injured no one. The shooter fled on foot towards Birch Avenue.

As Officers were investigated, a firearm was found in a vehicle allegedly belonging to Alejandro Martinez Gutierrez, 18, of Los Banos. Gutierrez had formerly been convicted as a felon, and is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Gutierrez was arrested and charged as a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a concealed loaded firearm and possession of a large capacity magazine.

Gutierrez was released from custody after posting $50,000 bail.

Los Banos detectives are asking anyone with information about the cases to contact Detective-Sgt. Jesse Ceja at (209) 827-2507.
