Three-month Los Banos homicide investigation results in arrest of trio at border
Three homicide suspects, including a father and son, were arrested June 24 for their alleged involvement in the killing of a 31-year old Los Banos man, according to police.
The arrests were the culmination of a three-month investigation after Rigoberto Fernandez Perez was shot and killed on March 13 in the area of Pacheco Boulevard and Mercey Springs Road, following reports of a disturbance between Perez and at least three other men.
Father Arviel Hernandez, 40, and his 21-year-old son Carlos Hernandez were identified as persons of interest in the homicide earlier this month.
Both men were encountered by Border Patrol Agents at the United States/Mexico International Border where their warrants of arrests were later confirmed.
After their arrests, the Hernandez’s were taken to the Imperial County Jail where they are pending extradition to Merced County.
Biridiana Carillo, 37, was also arrested and taken into custody for her alleged involvement in the crime. Carillo, along with two other family members are being charged as accessories in Perez’s death.
“We extend our heartfelt thoughts to the Fernandez Perez family and hope these arrests bring some level of closure to them,” said Los Banos Police Department Chief Gary Brizzee. “However, we understand our work is not done. LBPD will continue to follow these suspects through the court process and we recognize our commitment to all the grieving families who have suffered from senseless acts of violence in our community.”
The Los Banos Police Department encourages anyone who has information on this crime or any other crime in the community to contact Sergeant Jesse Ceja at 209-827-2507 or email the department anonymously at http://www.losbanos.org.
