Gang member arrested on attempted homicide warrant in Merced, police say

A vehicle stop led to two arrests, including an active gang member who had an active arrest warrant for attempted homicide, on Thursday in Merced, according to police.

Adrian Noel Torres, 30, was a passenger in the vehicle. According to police, Torres provided several false names to officers before being identified. Police said Torres is an active gang member and he was arrested for the warrant, gang enhancements and possession of a stolen firearm, which was located in the vehicle after a search.

Torres had packed clothing and appeared to be leaving town, police said.

An officer stopped the Chevy Malibu in the 1400 block of Martin Luther King Way at 4 p.m. Thursday. The driver, Eduardo Nepomuceno, 27, was arrested for gang enhancements and possession of a stolen firearm as well.
