Motorcyclist leads CHP officers in short chase in Merced County before crashing
A 48-year-old man led California Highway Patrol in a pursuit Sunday evening that eventually led to him crashing.
Officers tried to stop the motorcyclist at 8 p.m. who was traveling 87 mph in a 25 mph zone and had an obstructed license plate, CHP said.
The rider kept going and a short pursuit ended in a crash at Wallace Road and Hospital Avenue. He was taken into custody.
Officers conducted a search and found a loaded ghost gun and a bag of methamphetamine.
Ghost guns are privately made firearms that lack serial numbers, making them untraceable and illegal to possess in many cases — especially for convicted felons.
No injuries were reported.
