Shots fired at Merced vigil for two slain teenagers. What police say
Shots were fired near a vigil Wednesday night for the two 14-year-old boys killed in a shooting earlier this week, according to Merced police.
The vigil was being held near the makeshift memorials outside the Merced Urology Medical Group building on East 13th Street.
Police located nine spent bullet casings at the vigil at around 8:30 p.m. Nobody was injured, according to Merced Police Department Lt. Jose Barajas.
Merced police do not believe the killing of the 14-year-olds was gang-related, but the investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
On Wednesday afternoon, Barajas said there’s been a spike of gang activity in Merced since Davarion Granados, 16, was shot and killed by a known gang member in Merced on Nov. 19.
