Merced police gang crackdown results in 41 arrests, 23 guns seized
The Merced Police Department ramped up its Gang Violence Suppression Unit in January in response to a spike in gang-related violence.
The crackdown, which included daily operation and the addition of patrol officers, resulted in 41 arrests and 23 guns seized, police said in a Facebook post on Monday.
Here, according to Merced police, are the results of the increased patrols:
- Arrests: 41
- Guns seized: 23
- Drugs seized: 326 grams of meth
- Search warrants: 21
- Field investigations: 86
The spike in gang-related violence began in November with the killing of Davarion Granados, 16.
The increased gang violence continued in December and into January. Merced police announced the increase in patrols and personnel on Jan. 22.
