A woman from Texas who was found guilty of a DUI crash that killed a Merced man was sentenced to 10 years, eight months during a hearing at Merced County Superior Court on Wednesday.

Desiree Rose Gomez was found guilty of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and felony DUI causing injury.

The charges stemmed from an incident on April 26, 2025. Merced police said the crash occurred at G Street and Olive Avenue, just before 5 p.m.

A 30-year-old motorcyclist, Regino Mariscal of Merced, was killed in the crash.

According to a Merced County District Attorney’s Office Facebook post, the family said: “Although we will never have the sense of peace or justice, we are happy with the outcome of the sentencing. It has been extremely painful to acknowledge that my brother is gone forever because of someone else’s recklessness.”

This case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Rodrigo Aguilar.
