More rain headed to Merced along with ‘slight chance’ of thunderstorms
Don’t put away those raincoats, Merced.
More showers are heading to the Merced area, along with a thunderstorms or two, according to the National Weather Service.
The Valley had a 5% to 20% chance of receiving half an inch of rain, the weather service said on an X post, with the Sierra Nevada foothills had a 35% to 90% chance of half an inch of rainfall.
The last time Merced saw measurable rain was on Sunday, March 30, when 1 inch fell in the Central Valley city, the weather service said.
What’s in the forecast for Merced?
On Monday, the Merced area was expected to see showers and possibly a thunderstorm, along with with wind gusts as high as 20 mph, according to the weather service’s latest seven-day forecast.
The forecast called for a high temperature near 63 degrees and a low temperature around 43 degrees.
Monday night will have a 50% chance of rain, the weather service said, as winds gust as high as 15 mph.
“There’s a slight chance of thunderstorms” on Monday and Tuesday, said David Spector, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Hanford.
Tuesday will see some rain, mainly after 11 a.m., with scattered showers before 11 p.m.
The high will be near 55 and the low will be around 41.
“Merced is expected to get between four and sixth tenths of an inch of rainfall,” Spector said.
What about snow?
Spector said the weather service is expecting 1 to 3 feet of new snow to fall north of Kings Canyon.
“The higher amounts are going to be in the higher elevations in Yosemite (National) Park,” he said. “That’s where we’re expecting 2 to 3 feet.”
What is in the forecast for Merced weather?
According to the weather service, skies will be clear and blue on Wednesday with a high near 63, a low around 40 and wind gusts as high as 15 mph.
Thursday will be sunny, with a high near 65 and an overnight low around 41.
Merced can expect more clear skies on Friday, the weather service said. The high will be near 70 with a low around 43.
Saturday is expected to be sunny with a high near 74 and a low around 45, while Sunday’s high will near 78.
What’s next for Merced weather?
More dry, warm weather is expected in the days ahead, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center.
Merced will likely experience above-normal temperatures and below-normal precipitation on April 8 through 14, the Climate Prediction Center forecast said.
