Latest Merced County weather forecast: Storm may be stronger than expected
What was originally expected to be few days of decent rain in Merced County is now anticipated to be a doozy of a storm, according to the latest National Weather Service forecast.
The storm is expected to last through Sunday, the NWS said. Here’s a daily look at what to expect:
- Thursday: A 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 5 p.m.
- Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms with winds that could gust as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Rainfall total between a tenth and quarter of an inch.
- Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms with winds that could gust up to 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Rainfall total between a tenth and quarter of an inch.
- Sunday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 11 a.m. Winds could reach 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Rainfall total between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Monday is expected to be mostly sunny.
The incoming weather system could bring isolated thunderstorms with “lightning, gusty winds, brief heavy rain and small hail,” the NWS said.
Storms are expected to impact several regions, from Northern California and the Bay Area to coastal areas and the Central Valley, including Modesto, Merced and Fresno.
