What will Merced County’s weather be like for Fourth of July? Here’s the forecast

The last weekend of June featured relatively mild temperatures in Merced County, but highs will increase this week and peak on Saturday for the Fourth of July.

Across many of the Central Valley’s major cities, high temperatures last Saturday were generally recorded at between 10 and 13 degrees below average for this time of year. Not so this coming weekend.

Here’s what the National Weather Service has forecast for Merced the rest of the week:

  • Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 93.
  • Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 89.
  • Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 87.
  • Friday: Sunny, with a high near 91.
  • Saturday (Fourth of July): Sunny, with a high near 95.
  • Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 95.

Weather.com’s 10-day forecast calls for high temperatures to continue into the high 90s through the following week.

How to beat the heat in Merced County

Merced County opened its cooling zones — primarily branch libraries — on June 1 to help residents escape the extreme heat. Cooling zones provide air-conditioned indoor spaces, free bottled water, and places to sit.

Here are some hot-weather tips from the Merced County Office of Emergency Services:

  • Limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
  • Drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing when outdoors.
  • Seek air-conditioned or adequately cooled locations whenever possible.
