NASCAR at Phoenix live updates: Joey Logano wins his second race in 3 weeks
NASCAR’s fourth race of the season gets underway at Phoenix Raceway on Sunday afternoon. The one-mile oval is first short track drivers will run with the new rules package this season. It is also where the 2020 Cup Series Championship will be held in November.
“There’s nothing I’m going to do to enhance the racing besides drive my car and give it the best I can do and have a good run with it,” said last year’s race winner Kyle Busch after the qualifying round on Saturday. “Hopefully we’ll be able to win.”
“We’ll do the best thing for us,” continued Busch. “Setting ourselves up for when we come back here in the fall and hopefully have a chance to race for a championship. You have to get here first.”
Busch is starting 10th, while Chase Elliott is the FanShield 500 pole-sitter. Kevin Harvick will join Elliott in the front row. Martin Truex Jr. will start at the back of the field due to an engine change prior to qualifying inspection.

Stage 3
7:10 p.m., CHECKERED FLAG: The race went to overtime and Joey Logano won. Stay tuned for full race results.
6:59 p.m., Lap 305: Another caution. This thing is racing like a short track. Hold on to your butts, we’re going to (try) for a sprint to the finish. After the previous caution, Martin Truex Jr., who crashed out, told FOX “it sucks” that he can’t finish a race.
6:34 p.m., Lap 251: On the restart, Brad Keselowski will be on the lead. During Logano’s pit stop, there was trouble with a jack (Team Penske had to switch to a backup) and the No. 22 lost time.
6:28 p.m., Lap 265: With 47 laps to go, rookie Tyler Reddick couldn’t handle a turn and crashed sideways into a wall. It appears his day is over. Reddick was running in second at one point in the third stage. Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Busch and Joey Logano (the leader) decided to pit on the caution.
6:19 p.m., Lap 252: With 60 laps to go, Erik Jones hit a wall in Turn 2. Seventh caution of the day. Pit road is open and Kevin Harvick is in the lead.
6:12 p.m., Lap 240: Logano and Harvick battling for the lead now. Harvick is about 0.38 seconds behind Logano. Truex has fallen to almost 7 seconds behind.
6:05 p.m., Lap 224: Joey Logano passes Martin Truex Jr. for the lead. Truex started the race in last because he replaced his engine.
5:57 p.m., Lap 214: Quinn Houff is being towed away. On the radio he said, “something blew up.” His day is over. No other cars were involved in his crash. It’s the sixth caution of the day.
5:50 p.m., Lap 204: Rookie Tyler Reddick was in second, but a subtle fishtail made him fall all the way back to ninth. Joey Logano and Kevin Harvick now battling for second behind Brad Keselowski.
Stage 2
5:37 p.m., Lap 190: A caution is called to end stage two (for Garrett Smithley). Brad Keselowski wins the second stage for his first stage win of the season and first at Phoenix.
He is followed by Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Jr., Tyler Reddick, Kyle Busch, Aric Almirola, Joey Logano, Clint Bowyer, Kyle Larson and Cole Custer. Chase Elliott dropped to 29th place earlier after pitting from the lead under green due to a loose wheel, but he gets a free pass to return to the lead lap.
5:29, Lap 173: Cup Series rookie Tyler Reddick moves into fourth place, passing Kyle Busch.
5:15 p.m., Lap 145: Martin Truex Jr. briefly moves into first place off the restart, but Elliott regains his position and leads the field. He is followed by Keselowski, Harvick and Truex Jr.
5:05 p.m., Lap 131: Austin Dillon has heavy damage after running into the wall. A caution is called with the running order Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, Martin Truex Jr., Tyler Reddick, Chase Elliott and Kyle Busch.
4:55 p.m., Lap 118: Keselowski is looking fast as he passes Chase Elliott for second place. (Keselowski had the best long-run speed Friday in practice).
4:49 p.m., Lap 115: Brad Keselowski makes a push into the top-five after he was involved in the crash that forced the race’s second caution.
Stage 1
4:33, Lap 75: Kevin Harvick wins the first stage. He is followed by Chase Elliott, Joey Logano, Matt DiBenedetto, Kyle Busch, Alex Bowman, Martin Truex Jr., Eric Almirola, Tyler Reddick and Erik Jones in the top ten.
4:21 p.m., Lap 65: Denny Hamlin is involved in a crash with Brad Keselowski and Ryan Blaney coming around turn three. Blaney has damage to right front wheel and is done for the day, per his crew chief, Todd Gordon.
4:20 p.m., Lap 64: Harvick wins the battle off pit road and moves into first place off the restart.
4:15 p.m., Lap 58: Harvick is right next to Elliott as the field runs three-wide (with John Hunter Nemechek in back) but Elliott keeps the lead. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. spins out while running 18th and a caution is called.
4:10, Lap 47: Larson, Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski battle for eighth place, potentially making contact, but Keselowski shakes out to lead.
4:05 p.m., Lap 36: Denny Hamlin passes Larson for third. Matt DiBenedetto drives low, moves inside Larson, and now runs in fourth. Larson in fifth.
4:01 p.m., Lap 29: Martin Truex Jr. moves into the top 20 after starting in the back of the field. Busch’s crew tells him he does not have tire rub after the wall contact.
3:55 p.m., Lap 20: Elliot continues to lead. The Busch brothers battle in the back and Kyle Busch catches the wall off turn two.
3:50 p.m., Lap 4: Elliott remains in the lead for the first laps. Kyle Larson moves up to third place behind Elliott and Kevin Harvick. The field is driving fairly aggressive, with multiple cars dipping into the apron.
