Flash flooding is now in the forecast for Wednesday’s NASCAR race at Darlington, S.C.

On Tuesday, NASCAR’s Xfinity Series race was moved to Thursday due to rain and the same could be true of the sport’s next Cup Series return race, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday. Showers are expected to continue over Darlington Raceway through the evening.

As of 3 p.m. on Wednesday, steady rain had touched down in Darlington, S.C. with storms expected to continue and a flash flood watch in effect through 8 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Wednesday morning, there was an 80 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 12 p.m. and a 100 percent chance of precipitation in the evening, with rainfall possibly reaching a half inch.

If NASCAR postpones Wednesday’s race, it has said the event will be rescheduled to Thursday at 7 p.m. (following the rescheduled Xfinity race at 12 p.m. Thursday).

NASCAR will do everything it can to run its races as scheduled and mitigate travel time since teams are driving daily from the greater Charlotte area, but the sport is battling a gloomy forecast throughout the week.

This page will be updated with the latest and weather and schedule information. Pre-race reading can be found here.
