All registered Californian voters can soon expect to find a ballot in their mailboxes for the Nov. 8 election, which include contests for U.S. Senate, California governor, secretary of state and more.

Mail ballots for this year’s California general election will be sent to voters no later than Oct. 10.

Here’s what to do after you get your ballot:

Vote and sign

Make your selections in the ballot and seal it with the envelope provided. Make sure you complete all the necessary information and sign it.

Mail it or drop it off

You can return your completed ballot to your county elections office, as long as it is postmarked on or before Nov. 8 and received by the office “no later than 7 days after Election Day.”

Ballots can also be place in at a drop-off location. If you are leaving your ballot at a drop-off location, make sure you do so no later than 8 p.m. on Nov. 8.

You can find a box near you in California online.

Track your ballot

Stay updated on whether your ballot was received and counted using the state’s tracker, Where’s My Ballot?.

Didn’t get a ballot or lost it?

You can get a replacement mail ballot by filling out a California Replacement Vote-by-Mail Ballot Application Form and submitting it to the county elections office.

Make sure your voter records is updated with your latest information. If you’ve moved within the state, you can update your address by re-registering online.
