Furniture chain just closed a Central Valley location. Where to find open stores
Another national retailer has left Merced.
Just days after Five Guys closed its Merced location, Ashley Furniture shut down its local store.
As of Monday, June 22, the Ashley Furniture store in Merced had officially closed.
Details about why the store shut down — and when it served its final customers — have not been publicly announced.
Here’s what we know:
What is Ashley Furniture?
Ashley Furniture is one of the world’s largest furniture manufacturers and retailers.
Founded in 1945, the family-owned company has grown to more than 1,000 stores in 60-plus countries.
The Wisconsin-based retailer sells a wide range of indoor and outdoor home furnishings, including sofas, mattresses, rugs, bedroom sets and home decor.
Why did Ashley Furniture close in Merced?
Ashley Furniture opened in 2020 at 1764 West Olive Ave. in Merced, next to Lowe’s Home Improvement.
The store took over the former Best Buy space after the electronics retailer closed its Merced location following 17 years in business.
While Ashley occupied the site for about six years, no information has been shared about the closure. However, reports of the closure began surfacing in early June.
As of Monday, city officials had not announced what business, if any, will move into the space next.
