Driver killed in rural Merced County crash, CHP says

A driver was killed in a Merced County traffic collision south of Gustine on Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers responded to the area of Ingomar Road north of Husman Road, at about 4:21 a.m. to investigate the scene of a reported traffic collision with unknown injuries, according to a CHP news release.

According to authorities, a white Nissan driven by a 20-year-old Gustine man was traveling southbound on Ingomar Road while approaching Husman Road at an unknown speed.

According to the CHP, the vehicle veered to the right for unknown reasons and traveled off the roadway down an embankment turning over onto its side.

Authorities said the vehicle came to rest with the left side submerged under water and the driver still in the driver seat.

According to the CHP, the driver sustained fatal injuries as a result of the vehicle collision.

The name of the driver has not been released, pending notification of family or next of kin.
