Accused gang member arrested for allegedly possessing firearm, Merced police say
A traffic stop led to the arrest of an alleged gang member on suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm early Friday, according to police.
An officer observed a vehicle that appeared to be trying to avoid him by pulling into random driveways. The officer pulled the vehicle over in the 1100 block of West North Bear Creek Drive at 12:17 a.m.
The driver was driving on a suspended license, police said. When officers asked the people inside to exit the vehicle, a passenger, Roger Davis, informed the officers he had a gun in his pants.
Police removed a Ruger 9mm handgun. Davis, 34, of Merced, was arrested on suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a concealed loaded firearm and possession of a firearm by a documented gang member.
Davis was booked into the Merced County Jail, with bail set at $240,000, according to jail records.
Merced police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident or suspect to contact officer Zazueta at 209-769-5482 or by email at zazuetat@cityofmerced.org.
