Gun battle in Merced County: Homeowner and suspects exchange gunfire in home invasion

Police tape at crime scene

A gun battle between a homeowner and suspects sent two to the hospital in Merced County early Friday morning.

Los Banos police responded to the home invasion and shooting just after 2 a.m. in the 2000 block of Edward Street where “several armed suspects” entered the home and confronted the homeowner.

Police said the homeowner was able to get his legally owned gun and a gunfire exchange happened inside the home. The suspects fired multiple rounds towards the victim but missed.

The homeowner fired off shots and struck two. Police said two of the uninjured suspects fled the scene through a bedroom window and took off in a vehicle. The two other injured suspects were later located and taken to a Modesto-area hospital for treatment.

The investigation is ongoing.
